Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have released a set of open-source visualization tools on all course offerings called HarvardX Insights and MITx Insights respectively. The tools are updated frequently, so users can see close to real time data. The tools were created by Sergiy Nesterko, a research fellow in HarvardX, the university’s instructional-technology office, and Daniel Seaton, a postdoctoral research fellow at MIT’s Office of Digital Learning.
With these tools you can see the number of students enrolled from each country, how many students actually get a certificate, the age range, the gender composition, and education level. Tools like these offer the ability to assess how well the MOOC market is performing and determine how they should be improved in the future.
